A new study out Tuesday is redefining the criteria for Alzheimer's disease for the first time in almost 30 years.
Doctors are suggesting a major change in the way we define Alzheimer's disease. It would define Alzheimer's as a "spectrum" disease, separating it into three stages.
The first stage is pre-clinical alzheimer's, the second is mild cognitive impairment, and the third and most severe stage is dementia.Doctors hope that by identifying the disease earlier, patients will be in the pipeline earlier for research for future treatment.
