The anatomy of a brain afflicted with AD differs from a healthy brain. One distinction is tangles that begin to form deep in the brain and senile plaques forming in other areas. These senile plaques contain amyloid-beta (Abeta), a protein that promotes inflammation and oxidation in the brain, which leads to AD.
